On the weekend of April 12-14, 2024, the Parr Center was proud to host the 2024 National High School Ethics Bowl Championship. It was a resounding success, bringing 24 of the best High School Ethics Bowl teams from all around the country to Chapel Hill for an intensive weekend of dialogue and discussion over tough moral issues that matter.

Nominations are now open for the National High School Ethics Bowl’s 2024 Coach of the Year Award. Nominations may be submitted in written form (with a maximum length of 500 words), or via a short video narrative (with a maximum length of 3 minutes). All nominations will be reviewed by NHSEB’s Special Committee on Equity, Access, and Community, and winners will be announced at the 2024 National Championship Awards Ceremony in Chapel Hill on April 14.

After NHSEB's largest and most competitive season yet, the Parr Center for Ethics is thrilled to invite 24 of the best teams from around the United States to NHSEB 2024: The National Championship, scheduled for April 12-14, 2024 on the UNC-Chapel Hill Campus.

Earlier this year, the National High School Ethics Bowl announced an addition to the NHSEBBridge initiative designed to support our community in new and creative ways—a series of small grants (between $200 and $1,000) for Regional and Divisional Partners of the National High School Ethics Bowl program. We are proud to announce six NHSEB community members and their proposed projects as funding recipients for our inaugural grant cycle in 2023-2024.

In 2023-2024, winners of NHSEB Regional Competitions will be paired for head-to-head, single-elimination Divisional Playoff matches. The winner of each match will be invited to compete at the 2024 NHSEB National Championship at UNC-Chapel Hill. Teams will be seated for the 2024 Divisional Playoffs using a bid system which is responsive to the overall size of each respective Division (in terms of numbers of participating Regional Competitions and participating schools).

The National High School Ethics Bowl invites case submissions from high school students at participating schools. The NHSEB Case Competition is a great way to develop research and writing skills, learn to analyze ethical dilemmas, and craft compelling narratives that challenge your peers to think deeply about important ethical issues.

As a new addition to our NHSEBBridge initiative for 2023-2024, NHSEB HQ is excited to announce a new series of small grants (between $200 and $1,000) for Regional and Divisional Partners of the National High School Ethics Bowl program.

After some promising early data collection last year, we’re excited to announce that for the 2023-2024 academic year, the Parr Center for Ethics will be conducting a new study to investigate how participating in the National High School Ethics Bowl affects students’ intellectual and interpersonal traits.

As the National High School Ethics Bowl prepares to open its 2023-2024 Season this Fall, the NHSEB team is excited to announce some exciting developments and new resources which are now available to our community. Parr Center Director of Outreach Michael Vazquez and Consulting Research Scientist Michael Prinzing have recently published an open-access article on the educational value and impact of the National High School Ethics Bowl program.

We are very proud to announce that Maria Hester is the inaugural winner of the National High School Ethics Bowl’s Austin Foushee Alumni Scholarship. Hester is a recent graduate of the School for Creative Studies in Durham, NC, and a competitor in the North Carolina High School Ethics Bowl. Her application essays stood out among over a dozen candidates, and we look forward to welcoming her to the UNC Chapel Hill campus later this Fall!

The National High School Ethics Bowl is pleased to invite student applications for two vacant seats on the NHSEB Student Advisory Council.

As we look forward to our 2023-2024 Season, the National High School Ethics Bowl is excited to announce a variety of new leadership and advisory appointments across NHSEB’s Administration Team, Executive Committee, and Advisory Board.

This Summer, in addition to our recently launched 2022-2023 Feedback Survey, the NHSEB Executive Committee and Advisory Board will be conducting three topical Community Town Hall sessions for real-time feedback—one each in June, July, and August.
