New to NHSEB.org for 2023-2024: Discord Community, Case Library, Organizer Hub

As the National High School Ethics Bowl prepares to open its 2023-2024 Season this Fall, the NHSEB team is excited to announce some exciting developments and new resources which are now available to our community. We hope you'll take advantage of these opportunities, and we're excited to get to work on NHSEB's best year yet.

Join the Conversation on Discord

The NHSEB community has long asked for a gathering place beyond competitive events to connect over all things Ethics Bowl. Our first Student Advisory Council has been working on this project for some months now alongside the NHSEB Advisory Board and HQ staffers. Today, we're excited to fully open NHSEB's official community on Discord to all program participants(students, alumni, coaches, and organizers alike). We invite you to join us in building a constructive and fun online space that will be used by NHSEB participants for years to come!

Upon joining the server, you'll get a chance to familiarize yourself with our Community Guidelines, and a brief questionnaire will ensure you're sorted into the right channels for your role and region. The channel structure includes forums for structured discussion, running text and voice chat spaces for each role (students, coaches, and organizers), channels to give feedback to your Division's representative on the Student Advisory Council, and more!

To get started, please introduce yourself in the General Forum, have a look around, and feel free to message our community moderation team in the Ask NHSEB channel with any feedback or questions you have. We look forward to hearing from you, and to keeping in touch more generally with this exciting new venue!

Browse The Redesigned Case Library

This summer, after the launch of the new NHSEB.org, the NHSEB team began work to reengineer our system for archiving previously used Ethics Bowl cases. We're proud to announce the results of that work: a brand new Case Library, which will replace the legacy Case Archive as of today.

In our new Library, each individual case is broken out of its original set to stand on its own. Each case in the library includes the original full text, discussion questions to frame up case analyses, and newly-curated supplemental resources including video content, news stories covering recent developments, and topically relevant interactive resources. Each case also includes a downloadable and printable version for ease of use in classroom settings, and the entire database is searchable by keyword, topic, year, and full text.

We're thrilled to bring new life to over 300 Ethics Bowl cases ranging over a staggering number of topics, and we hope this new resource will be a useful one.

Introducing the Organizer Hub

For 2023-2024, we are excited to introduce a new secure area of NHSEB.org specifically for Organizers. Throughout the season, the Organizer Hub will serve as a dashboard for NHSEB Organizers that will streamline and clarify official communications and make resources available as they become relevant. This password-protected area will feature internal forms for organizers (like those for regional qualification and official results reporting), an always up-to-date list of schools which have registered with NHSEB HQ, rule bulletins, material checklists and NHSEBOne tricks for events, NHSEB-recommended competition questions, and more.

Each existing Regional and Divisional Organizer will receive a brief email from NHSEB between now and September 1 with credentials and login instructions for the Organizer Hub in advance of the Season Launch.

Mark Your Calendars: 2023-2024 Season Launch

Finally, we're excitedly looking forward to the 2023-2024 Season. NHSEB's Rules Council is finalizing some updated regulations and policies, and our Editorial Board is hard at work on an excellent new Regional Case Set. The 2023-2024 Season will officially launch in September with the release of these documents, the opening of school registration, a new slate of NHSEBAcademy programming, and more.

Please join us at 4PM ET on September 8 at NHSEB.org for our 2023-2024 Season Launch Live Stream, which will feature some exciting announcements from the NHSEB Administration Team and an overview of new regulation changes from the Rules Council, as well as a specially curated and interactive Case Authors' Roundtable facilitated by the Case Advisory Committee to get the conversation started on the new set.

In all these venues and more, we look forward to kicking off another great year of the National High School Ethics Bowl with you! We'll see you soon.
